Pita Lebar: Broadband and Telecommunications in Indonesia

About Pita Lebar

Posted by pitalebar on March 7th, 2008

The primary purpose of this site is to store my clippings of news items and other material regarding the broadband and telecom industries in Indonesia.  Most of these new clippings are from publications in Indonesdia, hence they are in Bahasa Indonesia. This site is my way of keeping track of developments in Indonesia.

The secondary purpose of this site is to provide a quick English translation (plus my explanation and comments) about the news items. One of the motivating reasons I started this site was due to a couple my colleagues (one was an exec in the Telco industry) who said they knew nothing about the broadband/telco industry in Indonesia. This was largely due to the lack of Indonesian news items and regulatory documents in English. They knew something about Telecoms in Singapore and Australia, but zero on Indonesia.

I have intentionally kept the complete original texts and URLs (wherever available) as my way of archiving new items.  These are copyright their original publishers. The reason I keep the original texts is the because many publishers in Indonesia often delete old news items (or poorly archive them).

Why “Pita Lebar”: The words Pita Lebar (lit. Broad Band) is often used to denote broadband and telecommunications in the Indonesian context.

About me: my day job is a technical geek in the valley. My other blog is here (in Bahasa Indonesia). I’ve had interest in 802.11 and 802.16 for several years now (even wrote a book on 802.11 security). My other interest (more generally) is in broadband access in Indonesia.
